This week everyone presented a short pitch of their major projects along with a written proposal to the course tutors. From there we were separated into our tutorial groups for our projects.

While we waited we did some work in the studio. During this time I gathered the resources I would need to complete the project.

I also took this time to email some of the organisations that work in wildlife and biodiversity. I contacted Butterfly Conservation and Ulster Wildlife.

I heard back from Rosie Irwin who is the Senior Engagement Officer of Northern Ireland for Butterfly Conservation. She told me to look at this campaign they are conducted called Wild Spaces as it is similar to my project idea. Currently, there are lots of people creating wild spaces in Great Britain but Northern Ireland is falling behind.

On the Wild Spaces website is some really good information on how to create wild spaces.

It shows that you can include a wild space in your garden or community, no matter how small. This is exactly the type of sentiment I want my project to have. My main aim is that people feel motivated and encouraged to start a wild space of their own.

In the email I sent to Butterfly Conservation, I asked if they had any frustrations trying to get people involved in biodiversity or frustrations they have with Northern Ireland’s biodiversity in general.
