Idea 1: Childcare management service

Overview

The childcare system is in crisis in the UK. The demand for places in nurseries rising while staff members

My solution would be to create a product that helps the management of the childcare centre/ nursery.

This solution would let staff log the developments and daily tasks of each child to their profiles on the system. There would be a feature to let them dictate the feedback instead of typing everything. In an average daycare in Northern Ireland staff would spend an additional hour to the work day, handwriting these notes. These digital logbooks must be kept secure but should also be accessible to staff to show social care workers conducting assessments of the childcare centre.

When researching this topic I did find current software solutions.

However, with my solutions, I plan on designing, a portal the parents can access to see their child’s profile along with any images of them taken by staff. On this system, the parents can book slots in the daycare centre and pay. Parents will also get the option to create and order a photobook of their child’s development while at the childcare centre. Similar to how Google Photos recommends photo albums and other printed photo gifts

Pros

1. It reduces the amount of work required by staff leaving them less stressed
2. It improves the communication lines between staff and parents
3. It keeps children’s data safer than written logbooks
4. Important information about how the centre is managed can be accessed quickly for assessments.

Cons

1. Services like this already exist but without my focus on improving the experience for parents with a physical photobook and access to information about children’s development.
2. The possibility that it isn't substantial enough as is for a major project
