Major Project Ideation

On this page I will be detailing my ideation process for my major project.

Week 00: First thoughts and problems

Since our induction class when we were told that your major project could be a system design and the idea of taking risks, I’ve been thinking bigger when it comes to the problems I want to solve.

The eventual solution I come up with might tackle a smaller issue but I’m trying to start big and work down.

Some of the biggest issues I recognize from the news and the big global issues are:

Income Inequality- the wealthiest 1% own 99% of the money
Childcare crisis- childcare in the UK is too expensive and in too high of demand
NHS crisis- Healthcare in the UK is underfunded and I saw the strikes outside Mater Hospital on the way to work all of the past year

At this moment it’s very hard to think of a solution that I can offer to these problems as they need government intervention.

Income Inequality- The government should put a higher tax on people with very high incomes and put that money into public services
Childcare Crisis- Cost of childcare should be subsidised by the government and policies should reflect the importance of early years education and treating children with respect (Finland is a good example of when this works well)
NHS Crisis- The government should put more money towards building up the NHS instead of continually underfunding it. It would lead to fair pay for the doctors and nurses and hiring more staff, leading to less overworking and stress
